Recently, I was talking with a guy over Hinge, and he made a comment about how it’s bad that women are using vibrators, because it numbs their clit and stops them from being able to cum when with a partner.
Now, I thought this was a bit of an extreme statement, and so I spoke to a couple of friends about it to find that a lot of people thought that this was true. So, let’s find out: does using a vibrator make it harder to cum during partner sex?
The answer is no.
Firstly, a lot of these statements are misinformation, and are uninformed about female pleasure and masturbation. First things first, vibrators are all doctor-approved. You are fine to use them all you want, with the exception of if it makes you feel pain or uncomfortable (then you should probably go speak to someone). Some people say that using a vibrator too much changes your sensitivity and ruins partnered sex, but having oral sex regularly can also change your sensitivity!
Secondly, orgasming is different for everyone. For some they can cum a lot easier/faster than others and that is perfectly normal. The key is to understand your body and what works for you. You also need to bear in mind that orgasming is also a very mental thing. So, stress cumming in general during sex is going to be a roadblock. And, if you’re also so stressed about your vibrator, then sometimes this might lead to you thinking/feeling a problem that isn’t there.
Lastly, let’s address the question of ‘numbness’, as we’ve all probably heard a couple comments about this. The Journal of sexual medicine did a study in 2009 and found that only 17% of users had experienced some form of numbness, and that these were not long term effects.
Overall, you do you. If vibrators work well for you, go for it. If they aren’t for you, that’s also okay.
