But porn is not real sex, and whilst I enjoy sex in my private life, it is very different to the sex I have on screen. It is so important that we learn that porn is for entertainment purposes only and stop taking our sex education straight from the library of your favourite performer.

Here are a few fundamental differences between porn sex and real sex...

• Just because you don't see it doesn't mean we didn't consent. We give it, before during and after the scene, we sign extensive contracts, show IDs and sexual health certificates and discuss our dos and don'ts with each other. The director will also be looking to check in during the scene if they think something isn't right (if they are a good director) So when you're choking and smacking the girl you just started dating, have a think, did she consent to this? Does she even like this? Consent should be the first rule in every sexual practice both on and off screen.
• Porn is fucking for someone else, sex is fucking for you When we go to work we have on objective.... To get YOU, the viewer, off. There is no point us having a good time if you can't see jack shit and you aren't enjoying it, then what would be the point. 9 times out of 10 sex in porn is pretty pleasureless, we have to open for the camera, we have to look amazing, and we have to put on a good show. Sex at home is close and intimate, without a sweating bald guy resting a camera on your shoulder to get closer to the action.
• Safety first When was your last STD check? Bet you don't remember... porn is all about safety for us the performer, so whilst its common for people to assume we are dirty and 'riddled' with STDs, the truth is we have professional sexual health certificates covering everything from HIV to syphilis to chlamydia, these are done every 10-14 days and MUST be presented on set and photographed along with your legal photo IDs, before the shoot takes place. It's all business, baby!
• The porn box. This is one of the least sexy things you will ever see, baby wipes, 10 different lubes, vaginal and anal douches, butt plugs and toys, condoms. The porn box is the directors box to make sure the scene goes smoothly, there is no accidents, everyone is clean and 'open' - the porn box however, is a good thing to have at home, in a bedroom drawer, it's good to be safe, clean and prepared. Sometimes the things we do on set make me wonder how sanitary my at home sex life actually is!
• Cleanliness is next to godliness Following the porn box is our own cleanliness, before a shoot we shower, we shave, we spray deodarant and perfume, we brush our teeth and we use mouth wash, we want to look good and smell good for our partner, even if it is just work. ‍
• Porn is a jobFinally, the most important of the lot, porn is a business, a job, we are there to have sex and get paid. There is no awkwardness, no intimacy, no surprises - we sign contracts, we have catering, we baby wipe in between takes and there are 30 people on set sometimes. It is a job, porn sex and real sex are incomparable, because of this. So don't try this at home!
