What is the difference between a circumcised and uncircumcised penis? The absence of foreskin at the head of the penis. 

 A circumcised penis may also be referred to as a ‘cut’ penis, and an uncircumcised penis can be referred to as an ‘uncut’ penis. Circumcision is the surgical removal of foreskin. Foreskin is the tissue that covers the head of the penis. A circumcised penises glands are exposed whereas an uncircumcised penis has foreskin covering the head. 

So, why do people get circumcised? This is due to religious, cultural or medical reasons. Circumcision may occur as an adult if you suffer from phimosis. This is when the foreskin is too tight, causing pain. 

Are there any benefits to circumcisions?  

It’s easier to clean 
You are less likely to get urinary tract infections 
It reduces your chances of getting STI’s 
Women with partners who are cut are less likely to develop cervical cancer. 


What are the biggest misconceptions?

Circumission does not reduce your sexual pleasure, but you might wanna make sure you use lube for handjobs. Some people also prefer to wear not so tight underwear. But, we’re all different! 
Being uncut does not make your penis bigger. Soz.

Circumcised vs uncircumcised penises 

Washing your penis properly is super important. Most people assume that they know how to wash their penis, but that might not always be true. You should take your penis hygiene seriously, because, if it’s not clean no one’s gonna wanna put that in their mouth. Also, having a clean penis will reduce your chances of UTI’s, and other infections. You will also want to stay on top of cleaning your penis in order to avoid the build up of smegma which is a white discharge that collects under the foreskin and can smell. Hygiene is sexy! 

All penises need to be cleaned, but if you have an uncut penis, you should pay extra attention to how you are cleaning your penis. 


How to clean foreskin:

You should gently pull back the foreskin. Do not pull back the foreskin with force as you do not want to tear the skin. Once the foreskin is pulled back, you can clean the head of the penis with water, then rinse underneath the foreskin. Use warm water. Do not scrub harshly as this can irritate the skin. Remember to also clean the base of your penis and the balls. Afterwards, pay the area dry, and then pull your foreskin back over the tip of your penis. 

What not to do:

Do not use cologne on your penis. That’s not going to clean it. 
Do not spray your penis with deodorant.
Do not use lotion or body washes.
Do not use any alcohol substances 

If you notice anything that looks strange when cleaning your penis, go see your doctor. And, always remember to clean your penis after exercising and sex! 


How to clean an uncut penis 

Learning to wash your hands is a basic thing that we learn since we’re potty trained. And yet, a vast majority of people are too lazy to wash their hands properly, or even at all. You would think that after Covid people would take washing their hands a bit more seriously, but nope. 

However, if you are about to have sex with someone, it is super important that their hands are clean, before they start to play with your clit. This is because, if their hands are dirty you could end up with a nasty UTI (if you think you have a UTI go speak to a doctor or nurse). 

It might sound like a bit of a mood killer to tell the person, ‘hey let’s go wash our hands’. But, your vulva will be thanking you later. I’d recommend keeping hand sanitiser, or baby wipes in the draw next to your bed. If the person has an issue with you wanting to make sure hands are clean, then they probably aren’t the right person for you because that’s someone that isn’t taking your sexual health seriously.

Foreplay cleanliness 

A lot of us ( at least I know I have and even at one point believed it myself) grew up
believing that being fully shaved or groomed is necessary in order to stay “clean” down there.
But is that really the case?

On the contrary- pubic hair actually serves as a protective barrier for your genitalia. It
protects dirt and harmful bacteria from entering in your vagina or penis, in addition to skin
injuries caused by friction (think when you get a paper cut, will the cut be as bad if you had a
layer protecting the scar as opposed to getting a cut directly onto your bare skin?) It can also
protect you from skin infections. And while it’s not 100% guaranteed, it may also protect you
from some STDS that can be transmitted from skin to skin contact such as herpes. Keep in
mind it doesn’t protect against public lice (aka crabs) but there's no hard scientific evidence out
there to support that having no pubic hair would completely eliminate the risks of getting crabs,
either. So where did this correlation that having pubic hair was unhygienic come from?

If you have poor hygiene in general, then yes, your pubes can get musty and gross. If
you don't maintain good personal hygiene, bacteria and pheromones from your sweat and oils
from your skin gets “trapped” in your pubic hair which can cause it to smell pungent, so I can
see how many people may believe that pubic hair is directly the cause of it, but it’s not its
hygiene in general. You can be fully shaved but if you have bad hygiene, that won’t protect you
from smelling down there. That’s like putting deodorant on your unwashed body to mask your
b.o.- it is not effective. And nasty.

I also believe that a lot of it comes down to aesthetics. There is nothing wrong with being well
groomed or trimmed, or even having a brazilian (I love a good brazilian personally), but
although times are changing and the preference will vary from person to person, there has been
an expectation,especially for women as a society to be fully hairless or trimmed. And a
common argument for that is because it’s “cleaner” when that’s not the case.There is no health
reason to be fully shaved , waxed, lasered etc. And If you’re doing that, it’s purely only for
cosmetic reasons. There's nothing wrong with that, it all boils down to personal preference. But
the point is, having pubic hair DOESN’T make you any less hygienic than if you didn’t. Keep in
mind that if you do decide to get rid of your pubic hair, be mindful that your skin is more
sensitive and open to more inflammation and infections - another reason to practice clean
hygiene.

Whether or not you decide to grow out your pubes or not is ultimately up to you. There is no “one look fits all” and whether you want pubes, trimmed pubes, or no pubes at all, it’s your call!
There’s nothing wrong with switching it up either!
